Why Hire Us

We are committed to you having all the information that you need to make a great decision as you choose an accounting firm. Below are some of the questions we think you should be asking. If there are other questions you want answers to, give us a call or send us an email and we will be happy to talk.

When you look for an accounting firm to partner with you in your business you need to know a few key things:

  1. Are they good at what they do?
  2. Do I like them as people?
  3. What is their approach?
  4. Do they understand my industry and uniqueness?
  5. Do they have a solid history of serving clients well?
  6. We want to take a few minutes to answer the questions we think you are asking.

Are they good at what they do?
The biggest question you are asking as you search is whether or not your prospective accounting firms is smart, up to date on current laws and equipped to take care of your business. At Matson and Isom we have assembled a group of people who are the best of the best. Our team is full of individuals who could easily work for larger international firms in the big cities (and many have), but have chosen Matson and Isom because our firm fits who they are and who they want to be. We pride ourselves in hiring and keeping the right people, who know their stuff and can help you to stay on track and achieve your goals.

Do I like them as people?
It may seem strange to suggest that liking the people who do your accounting should be near the top of the list, but think of it this way; Tax planning, audits, estates and generally making sure your finances are in good hands isn't always the most enjoyable part of your life and business. Even more to the point, many see accounting related tasks as the scariest part of it all, and see accountants are boring number crunchers! At Matson and Isom our view is different. We value relationship with our clients as a top priority, and we would argue that our staff are the most friendly, communicative and enjoyable team of number crunchers in the North State! Yes we like numbers, but we are not boring, and we strive to take the fear out of the process by helping really define your expectations and help you understand the implications of decisions you'll need to make. We want to partner with you and we believe the best partnerships are between people who value and like each other.

What is their approach?
You also need to know a bit about how a firm sees their role in working for you. Are they focused mainly on just doing your taxes once a year and keeping you compliant or is there more to it than that? At Matson and Isom we are committed (of course) to keeping our clients compliant with all the accounting rules and regulations, but we don't stop there. Our approach is to partner with our clients to help them see not only where they are, but also plan for the future. We get to know each of our clients well so we can best help guide you as you make decisions. As you look at planning your growth or branching into a new area, we are there to help you understand the best financial path to get you there. It's already been said, but partnering with you throughout the year is our approach.

Do they understand my industry and uniqueness?
Another key question in all of this is whether or not a firm will understand your unique needs and the issues surrounding your industry or situation. You'll see in the "What we do" area that we serve multiple types of clients, both locally and nationally. We have broad knowledge and expertise and we recognize that while clients have common needs and concerns, each client is unique. This is why we are so committed to knowing our clients.

Do they have a solid history of serving clients well?
Finally, you'll want to know if a firm has a proven track record of providing excellent solutions and keeping the clients both safe and satisfied. Well, you can read more in the Our Story area, but suffice it to say for 50 years we have partnered with over 12,000 individuals, entities and organizations to help them achieve success. We pride ourselves in long term relationships with the clients we serve and we would love to talk with you about the needs you have.

Have other questions? Give us a call or email us today and let's see if what we offer fits well with what you need in an accounting firm.
